My Recommended Itinerary for Mostar Travel

There aren’t a crazy number of attractions for Mostar – though that’s not to say it isn’t worth coming here. Here’s what I recommend for Mostar:

Free Walking Tour:

I will always recommend doing free walking tours because I love getting firsthand knowledge from a local. Just look up “Mostar Free Walking Tour.” It was nice going into this tour already knowing a lot from my time in Sarajevo, but it was also nice learning new things about Mostar specifically!

Stari Most:

If you’ve ever seen pictures of Mostar, the view of this iconic bridge is what you’ve likely seen. This is the Old Bridge that connects the two parts of the city. Walk across it, swim in the water underneath it, and watch as professional divers leap from the bridge into the water!

Koski Mehmed-Pasha Mosque:

I always love visiting mosques and this one is pretty, but the real reason you should visit is because it offers the best view of Mostar. Pay the entrance fee and climb the minaret to the top for the most unforgettable view! The top is pretty tight so be careful if you are claustrophobic.

Walk the Old Town:

Mostar is one of those places where the fun is in just walking around, discovering things on your own. There are so many shops selling beautiful souvenirs and artwork, as well as cafes selling delicious doners. Plus, no matter where you are in the Old Town, everywhere you look, there are picture perfect photo opportunities everywhere. It doesn’t take long to walk the entire Old Town. On either side of the Stari Most, you’ll find yourself in the Old Bazaar!

Museum of War and Genocide Victims:

I did not go to this museum, but it’s an important place to visit. The reason I didn’t go was because I spent so much time in museums in Sarajevo, I felt emotionally drained from everything I had taken in. I had also heard that a lot of the material is similar to what was in Sarajevo. So for those two reasons, I skipped this, but I’m adding it here because it’s still an attraction!

Sniper Tower:

This is a bit of a walk and located outside the Old Town. I was so intrigued by everything related to the war, so I wanted to check this out. You can’t go inside or anything, so it’s just a quick stop. But this is an old building where snipers positioned themselves.

Walk outside the Old Town:

If you’re going to check out the Sniper Tower, you’ll see just how different the rest of the city looks compared to the Old Town. I personally think it’s worth doing to wander around random parts of the city to get a feel for things outside the touristic bubble!

Blagajtekija:

This is a monastery built at the base of a cliff. It’s about 30 minutes outside of Mostar but unfortunately, I was unable to go. Adding it here because I think it should not be missed!
