Turks and Caicos Travel Guide for the Ultimate Tropical Getaway

As part of a mother-daughter ritual, my mom and I came here for one of our annual girl’s trips.

It was spectacular! Although I must say I think my wallet is still recovering from this trip – it was crazy expensive.

However, that being said, I still think it’s one of the best vacation spots in the Caribbean. Here are my Turks and Caicos travel tips to know before visiting!

Here are some helpful Turks and Caicos travel tips to know before you go:

Visa Requirements

U.S. citizens do not need a visa

Local currency

Local currency is the U.S. dollar.

Language

You might hear some of the locals speaking Creole, but English is the official language.

Plugs

If visiting from the U.S., no need to bring a converter or adaptor.

Turks and Caicos Essentials

There are a few things you’ll need for some fun in the sun! Here’s what I recommend for any tropical destinations:

SPF is a must. I’m constantly in the sun, but always make sure to protect my skin. I love using the SuperGoop brand because it’s affordable but there’s also a light tint to their SPF that adds some color to your skin.

In addition to SPF for the skin, I learned the hard way that you also need SPF for your head! There have been times where I’ve had my part get burned because I totally forgot to use a hat. Sun Bum is another great brand I love.

And of course, you’ll need something to protect your phone while you take your Insta pics! I have a Go Pro, but for those who don’t, I highly recommend getting a waterproof case so you can have peace of mind when using it.

When to Go

June – November is the rainy season, while Dec – April is peak season. My mom and I went in May and it was the perfect time – great weather and not too busy!

Where to Stay

Turks and Caicos is made up of various islands, but most people stay on the island of Providenciales, which is what I also recommend.

How To Get Around

There’s no public transportation, so I highly recommend renting a car if you plan on leaving the resort – which you definitely should!

Is It Safe?

Turks and Caicos Solo Female Travel

Turks and Caicos is very expensive and in my mind, I place I would only recommend for a family or couples trip.

It is extremely safe, however, so if you are a solo female traveler and wanted to come here, you can!

It just doesn’t really cater to that crowd, so I think you’re better off elsewhere for a solo female trip.

Turks and Caicos has a million things to do, but here’s what I recommend for Turks and Caicos:

Vanessa's Quick Thoughts

Turks and Caicos was a beautiful destination for one of our mother daughter trips. My mom and I ended up staying here for 5 days, which I felt was plenty of time.

However, please don’t underestimate how expensive it is! I thought by staying at a boutique hotel I would save money but since we ate out every meal it ended up being the same price – ha!

Anyways, I don’t regret the trip at all and consider it to be one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean.

Turks and Caicos Beaches

I have been to many countries in the world and I must say, some of the best beaches are here in Turks and Caicos! Of course if you’re planning a trip to the Caribbean, beach hopping is a must on your itinerary.

I think this beach got voted the #1 beach in the world by TripAdvisor, and for good reason – it’s stunning!

Most of the resorts and hotels in Providenciales are located near this beach so you’ll inevitably end up here.
It was my favorite beach!

If you end up checking out Las Brisas (one of my recommended restaurants) then this beach is just a few minutes away by car.

Grace Bay Beach

Turks and Caicos Attractions

As mentioned, this is the capital and where all the cruise ships come in. You can spend hours just walking around the port and seeing all the shops, casinos, and restaurants.
It was practically empty when I went because of COVID but I’m sure now it’s completely packed again!
Island Day Trips
As I mentioned on the Overview page, Turks and Caicos is comprised of various islands.

If you have the time, you can take a day trip to visit the other islands! North Caicos and Middle Caicos are islands that you can get to via ferry from Providenciales.

To visit Grand Turk and South Caicos, you’ll have to take a short flight.

You can’t come to the Caribbean and not get on at least one boat tour!

I ended up doing one that involved snorkeling and took us to various beaches, like Half Moon Bay.

My mom doesn’t snorkel, so she just stayed on the boat relaxing. But this is a good option to get to see the various beaches on the island.

My Recommended Food in Turks and Caicos

As I mentioned in my guide on things to do in Turks and Caicos, my mom and I ate out for every meal. I truly don’t think we had a single bad meal on the island – it was all so so good! And the restaurants were very chic and beautiful esthetics.

Conch Shack

If you’re a Real Housewives fan, then you’ll know this is a restaurant the ladies went to on Season 1. That alone is reason to go IMO but wow, the jerk chicken was phenomenal! The vibes and esthetic are also fun to enjoy.

Seven Stars Resort and Hotel

My mom and I came to this resort for dinner because I loved the esthetic, and it looked like a nice spot for sunset. The food was really good! The pain point for me on this night was when my mom ordered a $40 shot of tequila because she doesn’t read the price if she’s not paying and she’s also bougie. But still, come here anyways for sunset views and good food.

Caicos Cafe

It doesn’t look like anything special but the place had good reviews so we went. My mom and I ended up loving the ribs and I became obsessed with the potatoes au gratin!

Las Brisas

This was on my list because of the views and reviews but once we got there, we chatted with the owner who told us it was one of Maluma’s favorite places to eat! We came here for breakfast but they offer lunch and dinner too. Afterwards, you can hang out at the pool next to the restaurant!

Mr. Groupers

This is one of those places where years later, you’re still thinking about the food. The jerk chicken – WOW. Ugh I miss it. Please go here for authentic island food!

Omar’s Beach Hut

This is a cute little beachfront restaurant at the beach – literally there are tables in the water. Stop in for lunch or dinner and eat in the water!

Infiniti Restaurant and Raw Bar

They had a live band and my mom got drunk singing along to sad love songs – she’s iconic! Anyways, the vibe and esthetic were great. We even saw a live proposal! My mom and I ended up just sharing a pizza and listening to the live music as the sun was setting, it was so nice! Afterwards we munched on some s’mores.
